You’re on a 30 lbs. mountain bike that on average can do 18-20 MPH fastest with the average person. I’m in a 3,500 lbs. hunk of steel and fiberglass that can reach highway speeds and faster. If there’s a sidewalk, use it, or if there isn’t, use the shoulder of the road, not the road itself. Far too many times have I seen cyclists ride in the middle of a road with a 35 or even 40 MPH speed limit. Not only are you putting yourself at risk (because if you get hit on a bicycle by a car doing 40 MPH, you’ll likely end up in the morgue), but you’re also putting drivers at risk, because if they have to go around you and can’t see another car because of a hill, they could get in a wreck. Bicycles do not belong on most roads and should not be allowed on most roads. Bicycles should have to use either the sidewalk, or the shoulder of the road. If you are riding your bicycle on the road, you are a traffic hazard. I shouldn’t have to share the road with a bicycle that can’t keep up with traffic. The same can be said for someone riding a horse as well.
